Contest winners Traci and Dan

FILED IN: Engagements

Every year we try to give away a few engagement sessions. This year Traci and Dan were our winners of an engagement session! We chose to do the engagement session at the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park: 100 Acres, part of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Every time I write about doing a shoot at this location, I always type out Hundred Acre Wood at first, because the name reminds me of the fictional forest in the Winnie-the-Pooh stories, but this is Indianapolis, not the Ashdown Forest.

I had a wonderful time capturing at the Indianapolis Museum of Art with Traci and Dan. They were both so kind, it was a lot fun getting to know them. We were able to capture quite a few shots by the Park of Laments, the installation by Alfredo Jaar in the 100 Acres. I keep returning to the Park of Laments when I visit the IMA, because it is such a beautiful exhibit and such a tranquil area. I love the entrance to the Park of Laments, the long walk through the limestone filled Gabion baskets leading to a tunnel with dim uplighting in the concrete floor. Upon exiting the tunnel, there is a flight of stairs that leads into a peaceful square lawn, walled off by more limestone. The stairs exist in a square inside of another square. It is well thought out and provides a great place to capture photos, because of the privacy afforded to it by the limestone walls and the beautiful light that streams down through the surrounding trees as the sun rises and sets.
