Abby walked past the fluted stone pillars, entangled in vines, in the Colonnade Garden. They had planned to do their revealing in the Oakhurst Gardens at the Minnetrista in Muncie, Indiana, but the arcade in the Colonnade Garden was too beautiful to pass. Arturo stood at the end of the colonnade with his back to Abby, and he was already smiling. Abby walked slowly toward Arturo. When she reached him, she tapped him on the shoulder. He turned slowly and looked at her for the first time on their wedding day. Then he took Abby by the hand and spun her around, his eyes drinking in every detail of the dress. After she spun around for him, Abby said something softly to Arturo, and they both started laughing. This set the mood for the rest of their wedding day. They were both intensely in love, but they couldn’t help but to make each other laugh. It was very sweet.
Abby and Arturo were married later that day in Abby’s mother’s back yard. They were already married, technically. They married each other when Arturo moved from Peru to the United States. Even though they were already married, they approached the day with reverence, and planned many events to make the day special. My favorite event of the day was when they dug up a bottle of bourbon they had buried earlier in the year. The bottle of bourbon was buried to help ensure good luck, and good weather, on their wedding day. It was such a neat tradition. Steve’s favorite part was when they topped their wedding cake with Star Wars figurines, R2-D2 for Arturo and C-3PO for Abby. It was a magical day, filled with lots of laughter. We are so happy we were able to be a part of it.
